Jazz studies at the JAMU Faculty of Music
The Department of Jazz is relatively young compared to other departments of the HF JAMU. Although it has only been in operation since 2010, it is one of the best in its field in the Czech Republic. The teaching staff consists of leading Czech and foreign jazz personalities.
Among them are Juraj Bartoš, Jan Dalecký, David Dorůžka, Matúš Jakabčic, Jan Jirucha, Peter Korman, Vít Křišťan, Jiří Levíček, Allison Nohavica, Cyrille Oswald, Jan Přibil, Géraldine Schnyder, Jesse Simpson, Jiří Slavík, Kamil Slezák, Marián Ševčík and Pavel Zlámal. Most of them are active musicians and are therefore able to transfer their practical experience to the students. The department is headed by Vilém Spilka, renowned guitarist, dramaturge and artistic director of the international JazzFestBrno festival and programme director of the Prague Sounds festival.
