Electroacoustic Music Composition

The study specialization Composition of Electroacoustic Music is taught at Department of Composition and Multimedia Production. This multidisciplinary department teaches future composers not only the “craft” itself, but also to work closely with multimedia artists, conductors, choral directors, opera directors and audio engineers. Students learn not just the craft, but more importantly to think about music making in a modern way.

It is a five-year master’s degree. If graduates of bachelor’s degree programmes from other schools are interested in studying, they can apply for entrance examinations, take differential examinations and, after successfully passing them, proceed directly to the fourth year at JAMU.

The Faculty of Music of the JAMU offers work with state-of-the-art equipment that is suitable for both demonstrative teaching and experimentation. These include, for example, the conversion of visual, haptic and other parameters into sound, the realisation of graphic scores, research into micro-interval tuning, interactive electronic systems, the use of multi-channel reproduction or compositional integration of recordings of ambient sounds – so-called field recording, etc.) including the school theatre. The students will also collaborate with the National Theatre Brno and other institutions (including foreign ones, such as the Institute of Sonology in Den Haag, the Netherlands) and have the opportunity to try out their own recording studios.
