Music Production (BcA.)
The mission of the Bachelor’s degree programme is to prepare students for middle management professions in music institutions and other cultural and artistic institutions, including music education, as well as in other entities of creative musical life, the music industry, art agencies, or in their own projects.
The aim of the study is to prepare a graduate – a producer:
- for middle management professions in music institutions;
- with knowledge of music environment issues, the artistic process, team management, law, psychology, economics, communication and marketing;
- with good language skills in two foreign languages
- With a deep knowledge of leading teams, workgroups and music departments;
- with practical experience in productions (in Studio 9, the music drama laboratory, the recording studio and in specific school projects: the performances of the Chamber Opera of the JAMU Chamber Music Faculty, the Leoš Janáček International Competition, the Festival of New Music Encounters, and in their own final cultural projects;
- equipped with contacts with foreign and domestic experts in the field of music production and management, for example through the Symposium: art | music | management.
Applicants do not need to be a trained musician or have experience in music to study the Bachelor of Music Production . The study is open to all high school graduates who demonstrate organizational talent, managerial aptitude and an obvious interest in music and cultural events.
Music production at the department of the same name is a relatively young field, which was established in 1993 (as a music management major). It is here that many graduates have started their careers as music managers, agents, festival directors and even orchestra directors in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Its mission is to prepare artistic managers and producers for their future positions and to continuously develop their own creativity.
JAMU educates students not only in the field of artistic operation, but also in management, economics, marketing or relevant legislation. The Department of Music Production further develops these skills and knowledge and provides students with the freedom in their self-fulfilment, whether they want to be producers or marketing and communication specialists. However, it’s not just about the teaching itself during the course of study. Students will also undergo a rich work experience, not only in the preparation of performances of the Chamber Opera of the HF JAMU, but also with partners of the faculty, such as the Brno Philharmonic, the National Theatre Brno and many others. Theoretical teaching is complemented by a number of professional meetings and conferences, such as the Symposium Art Music Management.
At the end of the three-year study, students not only submit their bachelor’s thesis, but also prepare their own graduation project with a musical, music-science or other focus. These theses are defended in the State Final Examination.
Alumni Bachelor’s degree in music management are not only able to put theoretical knowledge into practice, but also have a general overview of the cultural (music) sphere. They are familiar with the history of music and have a basic understanding of the principles of dramaturgy, marketing, PR and artistic operations. After studying, graduates are are able to work in a wide range of junior or middle management positions in orchestras and cultural organisations in general, such as producer, secretary/ice festival, clerk/clerk marketing and communication positions, or are also prepared for a career as music managers providing booking, touring, promotions, economics or artist development. Thanks to a wide range of knowledge and skills, our graduates are also employed in managerial positions in multinational corporations in IT, marketing or other sectors.
