Educators

From 1982 to 1988 he studied organ at the Brno Conservatory with Vratislav Bělský and later with Zdeněk Nováček. He then continued his studies at the JAMU in Brno, in the class of Alena Veselá. During his studies he actively participated in performance courses with Martin Haselblöck, Stanislav Heller and Michael Radulescu. He drew attention to himself with his successes at several international organ competitions (1986 Opava II Prize, 1988 Brno II Prize, 1989 Prague Spring III Prize, 1991 Deventer I Prize).

After graduating in 1993-2000, he taught organ playing and improvisation at the newly founded JAMU Cabinet of Sacred Music as an external lecturer. After a successful audition, he became a teacher of organ playing and improvisation at the Brno Conservatory in 2000. During his teaching career he has trained many successful teachers, concert and church musicians. He has initiated and participated in the organization of several national organ competitions for elementary schools and conservatories. He has been invited to serve on competition juries. He founded the International Festival of Organ Summer in Petrov and Organ Advent in Petrov. In 2022 he will become an internal teacher at the JAMU.

He develops his concert activity on several levels, in addition to solo organ concerts, he regularly cooperates with the Brno Philharmonic, the Brno Opera Orchestra, the Salzburg Cathedral Orchestra, Czech Virtuosi, Jiří Pavlica’s Hradistan Music, the Gustav Brom Orchestra and the Prague Film Orchestra, Czech Philharmonic Choir of Brno, Prague Chamber Choir, Czech Academic Choir of Brno, Ars brunensis Chorus, Cantores Gradecenses, North Bohemian Philharmonic Choir, Moravian Teachers Choir, Brno Academic Choir, Gloria Brunensis and a large number of instrumental and vocal soloists.

He performs concerts at home and abroad (Austria, Germany, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Italy, Spain, Cyprus, France, Luxembourg, Finland, Malta, Vatican City, China).

Throughout his musical career he has worked with choirs. In the period 1995-2002 he was engaged at the National Theatre in Brno, where as choirmaster of the Choral Society he staged more than 20 titles of operettas, operettas and musicals. In 2001 he became choirmaster of the Brno Philharmonic Choir Beseda brnenska and conductor of the Orchestra of the Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul. In 2014 he founded the Brno Cathedral Choir MAGNIFICAT.

It develops cooperation in the field of sacred music with representatives of the music of important Central European churches (Salzburg Cathedral, Nikolaikirche Leipzig, Bratislava Cathedral, Prague Cathedral). Since 2000 he has been a member of the presidium of the Unity Musica Sacra. He is also active in the development of cultural relations with Brno’s partner cities – Stuttgart, Leipzig, Utrecht.

He has been a lifelong church musician and organist. He held his first organist’s post in 1986-1990 at the Church of St. John of Nepomuk in Prostejov, and in 1990 he accepted the post of choir director and organist at the Basilica of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Stary Brno. Since 1998 he has been the choir director and organist at the Cathedral of Sts. Peter and Paul in Brno. One of the important goals of his work was the completion of the repairs of the cathedral organ, the largest instrument in South Moravia, which took place between 1997 and 2006. Another goal of his work in the Brno Cathedral was the establishment of the Brno Cathedral Mixed Choir, with which he staged a large number of church compositions by important Czech and international composers. He premiered Zdeněk Pololánek’s Solemn Mass for choir and orchestra, written by the author for the 800th anniversary of the town of Konice. In the premiere he performed Missa Sobiborensis by composer Wilhelm Österreicher for mixed choir organ and wind orchestra, composed to honour the victims of the Sobibor extermination camp. In 2015 he founded the Brno Cathedral Choir Magnificat. Among his notable performances he co-performed a concert for Pope John Paul II at the Vatican during the Jubilee Year 2000. Performing at the Pilgrimage of the Nations of Central Europe in Maria Zell in 2002. During Pope Benedict XVI’s visit to Brno in 2009, he conducted the music at the solemn papal service at the local airport in Tuřany. The year 2013 brought a performance at the main service of the Peaceful Revolution celebrations at St. Nicholas Church in Leipzig. In 2025 he realized the music of the National Pilgrimage in Velehrad. During his musical career, he has realized almost 1000 performances as organist, choirmaster, conductor or singer.

He has produced several CDs, recordings of concert performances and live television and radio broadcasts. In his musical career he has also been involved in the realization of benefit concerts, in these activities he has cooperated with the organizations Apla o.s., Za sklem o.s., Kociánka, Hospice of St. Joseph Rajhrad and Club Niederösterreich.

For his work in the field of sacred music, he received the St Peter and Paul Medal in 2013, and in 2019 he received the Johann-Wenzel-Stamitz Pries Award of the Esslingen Art Association.
