Viola

A full university bachelor’s degree in the relevant field of study of the String Instruments Study Programme and the relevant specialisation. Candidates who have studied undergraduate courses must demonstrate an exceptional level in their specialisation in the practical examination. The practical examination determines the professional and, above all, artistic aptitude for studying the chosen specialisation of the study programme.

The entrance examination takes the form of a recital on an instrument of the relevant specialisation.

1) Two etudes:

J.Herold, M.Vieux, H.Vieuxtemps, N.Paganini etc.

2) Two contrasting parts of:

a) J.S.Bach: Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin (transcribed for viola, BWV 1001 – 1006)
b) J.S.Bach: 6 Suites for Solo Cello (transcribed for viola, BWV 1007 – 1012)
c) M.Reger: Suite Nos. 1 – 3

3) One movement from the following concertos with cadenza and piano accompaniment (of your choice):

a) K.Stamic: Concerto in D major – 1st movement
b) J.K.Vaňhal: Concerto in C major – 1st movement
c) F.A.Hoffmeister: Concerto in D major – 1st movement

4) Concerto from standard world repertoire (all with piano accompaniment):

P.Hindemith, B.Bartòk, W.Walton, B.Martinů etc.

Playing by heart is a requirement.

Each candidate will provide his/her own piano accompanist.

The entrance examination includes an exam in a foreign non-Slavic language (A or N), the result of which constitutes 10% of the total grade. The foreign language examination is conducted as a written lexical-grammatical test at B 1+ SERR level. The test also tests knowledge of specialist terminology in the field of music.
