General information
Applicants must have completed secondary education with a secondary school leaving certificate. The candidate must demonstrate an exceptional level in his/her specialty in the practical examination and meet the prescribed admission requirements. The practical examination determines the professional and, in particular, artistic aptitudes for the study of the chosen specialisation of the given study programme.
The entrance examination takes the form of a recital on an instrument of the relevant specialisation.
Form of the entrance examination
1) One scale:
three-octave with appropriate staggered chords, also thirds, sixths and octaves in basic bowing patterns.
2) Two etudes:
B.Campagnoli, J.Dont, J.Palaschko, J.Herold, M.Vieux, N.Paganini etc.
3) Two contrasting parts of:
a) J.S.Bach: Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin (transcribed for viola, BWV 1001 – 1006)
b) J.S.Bach: 6 Suites for Solo Cello (transcribed for viola, BWV 1007 – 1012)
c) M.Reger: Suite Nos. 1 – 3
4) One movement from the following concertos with cadenza and piano accompaniment (of your choice):
a) K.Stamic: Concerto in D major – 1st movement
b) J.K.Vaňhal: Concerto in C major – 1st movement
c) F.A.Hoffmeister: Concerto in D major – 1st movement
5) Concerto or Sonata (complete with piano accompaniment):
H.Vieuwtemps, N.Paganini, B.Martinů, B.Bartók, G.David, C.Forsyth etc.
The entrance examination includes a general knowledge test, which constitutes 10% of the overall assessment, and an interview oriented towards current developments in the field of performance and knowledge of professional music (notation) and music theoretical literature.
Piano accompaniment will be provided by each candidate.
