Double bass

Applicants must have completed secondary education with a secondary school leaving certificate. The candidate must demonstrate an exceptional level in his/her specialty in the practical examination and meet the prescribed admission requirements. The practical examination determines the professional and, in particular, artistic aptitudes for the study of the chosen specialisation of the given study programme.

The entrance examination takes the form of a recital on an instrument of the relevant specialisation:

  1.  Stupnice:
    • major and parallel minor triple octave in basic bowing patterns including double chords and staggered chords.
  2. Two etudes:
    • Simandl: Gradus ad Parnasum,
    • F. Černý: 30 Caprices,
    • F. Hertl: 20 Studies or M. Gajdoš: Capriccia
  3. J. S. Bach:
    • two movements from solo suites (transcription for double bass by Tadeusz Pelczar) or other or
    • Fryba: two movements from the Suite in the old style or
    • M. Gajdos: Prelude and Fugue
  4. Two contrasting movements from sonatas of the Baroque or Classical periods:
    • B.Marcello, H. Eccles, G. F. Händel, J. M. Sperger, etc.
  5. Concert:
    • full concert from the Classical or Romantic period with piano accompaniment of your choice
      E.g.: J. K. Vaňhal, D. Dragonetti, K. Hoffmeister, J. M. Sperger, S. Kusevický, etc.

The entrance examination includes a general knowledge test, which makes up 10% of the overall assessment, and an interview oriented towards current developments in the field of performance and knowledge of professional music (notation) and music theoretical literature.

Each candidate will provide his/her own piano accompanist.
