The study programme prepares professional pianists and piano teachers. Teaching focuses on:

  • solo piano performance,
  • chamber music and piano accompaniment,
  • piano pedagogy,
  • analysis and interpretation of piano repertoire,
  • contemporary piano literature,
  • technology in piano practice and studio recording,
  • professional skills and self-management.

Regular masterclasses with local and foreign teachers are part of the study.

As part of the specialization, you will receive a comprehensive education in piano performance and piano pedagogy, based on the long-standing and internationally respected tradition of teaching at the JAMU Faculty of Music.

During your studies you will gradually learn:

  • systematic development of solo piano performance, including work with demanding concert repertoire
  • long-term planning of artistic career, including competitions, concert projects and study abroad
  • theory of piano performance, history of piano playing and piano pedagogy
  • methodology of teaching piano playing at all levels of artistic education
  • practical pedagogical skills through specialised courses and pedagogical seminars

In the practical part of the study you will learn:

  • work with pre-school, primary, secondary and university age pupils under the expert supervision of experienced teachers
  • to master not only the concert repertoire but also the tribal instructional piano repertoire
  • prepare for pedagogical selection procedures and auditions

The studio also includes:

  • cooperation with the Methodological Centre of Piano Pedagogy
  • orientation in historical and contemporary piano schools in the Czech and international context
  • familiarisation with the curriculum and teaching methodology of the ZUŠ, conservatories and universities, including associated subjects (compulsory piano, improvisation, playing from the page, etc.)

As part of the state final exam, you will demonstrate:

  • performance level at the graduation concert
  • ability to reflect professionally in the thesis
  • pedagogical preparedness in the form of model teaching before the examination committee
  • knowledge in the field of piano didactics
  • Practical skills through studio recording of instructional piano literature

During your studies, you will gain direct experience in concert, recording and teaching practice and you will have the opportunity to publish professional texts and present your artistic and pedagogical results in the professional online magazine Pianissimo.

Teaching is provided by pianists and teachers with international experience. Students have at their disposal modern classrooms and practice rooms equipped with Steinway, Bösendorfer, Yamaha, Petrof concert grand pianos and professional audiovisual facilities including the concert hall of the Faculty of Music.
