Pedagogy of piano playing

The essential condition for admission is the demonstration of talent, knowledge and skills necessary for study. It is assumed that the applicant either has a clear interest in becoming a piano teacher or is already in this profession and seeks further and deeper training in piano performance and pedagogy. The typical candidate is a graduate of a conservatory piano course or a candidate who has successfully passed the final examination at a secondary vocational school of music. A suitable candidate is in particular a teacher of a primary school, secondary school, conservatoire, secondary school of music, or faculty of education who has fulfilled the above-mentioned conditions of previous education.

Graduation from the conservatory or matriculation at secondary school is not a legal condition for admission (§48/2 of the Higher Education Act). Therefore, an applicant from the Czech Republic or abroad without the above-mentioned prior education may be admitted if he/she demonstrates talent, knowledge and skills at an equivalent level.

  • performance – assessment of the level of piano playing in the repertoire corresponding to the graduation from the conservatory (difficulty and range of repertoire equivalent to the graduation examination in piano playing at the conservatory),
  • practical pedagogical exam – work with a model, a student of the ZUŠ in the piano,
  • interview on professional issues of piano pedagogy,
  • written knowledge test.
