General information
Graduates of conservatories or music grammar schools can apply. However, gifted students from other (non-music) schools can also participate in the admission procedure. To be admitted to study at the JAMU Faculty of Music, it is necessary to demonstrate a high level of performance, ability to concentrate, mental fitness for stage performance and the necessary level of general knowledge.
How do the entrance exams work?
The entrance examination is held in the form of a recital, during which the candidate performs on the instrument for which he/she is applying.
Form of the entrance examination
One scale:
major in the range of four octaves, the appropriate staggered fifth chord, sextchord, quartsextchord, diminished seventh chord, dominant seventh chord, thirds, sixths and octaves using the thumb position
2) Two etudes:
a) one – D. Popper: Etudes Op. 73, Nos. 9, 17, 20, 22 23
b) one – D. Popper: Etudes Op. 73 (other than in a) or A. Piatti: 12 Caprices or J. J. F. Dotzauer: Etudes – No. 70 and above
3) J. S. Bach:
Prelude from Solo Suite No. 3 BWV 1009 or
Prelude from Solo Suite No. 4 BWV 1010 or
Prelude and Fugue from Solo Suite No. 5 BWV 1011 or
Prelude from Solo Suite No. 6 BWV 1012
4) 1. a movement of one of the following concerts with a cadence of your choice:
Haydn: C major Hob. VII b/1 or
Haydn: D major Hob. VII b/2 or
L. Boccherini Movement I from Concerto in B flat major
5) Concert:
an entire concert by a composer of the Romantic period with piano accompaniment of your choice – e.g. E. Lalo, C. Saint-Saëns, R. Schumann, A. Dvořák, P. I. Tchaikovsky (Rococo Variations), etc.
The entrance examination includes a general knowledge test, which makes up 10% of the overall assessment, and an interview oriented towards current developments in the field of performance and knowledge of professional music (notation) and music theoretical literature.
Piano accompaniment will be provided by each candidate.
