General information
Candidates must prepare to submit scores of several different compositions for different chamber instrumental, vocal and mixed ensembles, and in the case of electroacoustic music, recordings of several different compositions created using different methods of sound production.
They will demonstrate their knowledge of music theoretical disciplines and instrumentation at the level of a high school graduate in composition in the case of the Composition specialisation, including the ability to create short studies without preparation concerning the contemporary organisation of pitches, rhythm, etc.; in the case of the Composition of Stage and Film Music specialisation, also knowledge of harmony and counterpoint.
In the case of the specialisations Composition and Composition of Stage and Film Music, the ability to play the piano at the level of a graduate of a ZUŠ, in the case of a candidate for the specialisation Composition of Electroacoustic Music, the ability to play an electroacoustic instrument at least at a basic level.
The entrance exam includes a general knowledge test.
Form of admission procedure
- Submit scores or recordings of music for several stage or film projects (the result of this part of the exam constitutes 50% of the overall assessment).
- Knowledge of music theoretical disciplines and instrumentation at the level of a high school graduate in composition (including harmony and counterpoint), ability to create short studies without preparation, expressing the assigned atmosphere (the result constitutes 30% of the evaluation).
- The practical piano examination includes a performance of repertoire from different styles (the result constitutes 10% of the assessment). The committee assesses the level of the candidate both musically (convincing expression, feeling for harmony and form, polyphonic and tonal hearing) and technically. The repertoire should include at least:
- one piece from the Baroque or Renaissance period
- one composition or sonata movement from the Classical period (sonata form is preferred)
- one piece from the Romantic or 20th century
- one song of your choice
- The exam includes a written test of general cultural knowledge (the result constitutes 10% of the assessment) and an interview with the candidate, which examines his/her interest in the chosen field.
