Admission procedure

Course of the admission procedure

The admissions procedure is usually conducted in two or, exceptionally, three rounds.

  1. Written examination in harmony (harmonization of folk song, modulation) and counterpoint (exposition of fugue) within the scope of the conservatory’s curriculum. The result constitutes 10% of the overall assessment.
  2. Practical examination in aural analysis (intonation and rhythmic dictation) within the scope of the conservatory’s curriculum. The result of the examination in aural analysis constitutes 15% of the overall assessment.
  3. An oral examination in general music, harmony, counterpoint, musical forms, musical instruments, and music history – all within the scope of the conservatory’s curriculum. The result constitutes 10% of the overall assessment.
Repertoár by měl obsahovat nejméně:
    • one piece from the Baroque or Renaissance period
    • one composition or sonata movement from the Classical period (sonata form is preferred)
    • one piece from the Romantic or 20th century
    • one song of your choice
      • At least one of the songs must be performed by heart.
  5. Zkouška z dirigování se skládá ze tří částí.
    • první části zkoušky posluchač diriguje u klavíru dvě symfonie:
      • symphonies from the classical period (Joseph Haydn or Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart)
      • symphonies from the Romantic period (e.g. Antonín Dvořák: Symphonies 5-9, Petr Ilyich Tchaikovsky: Symphonies 4 and 5, etc.)
    • Candidates will bring scores of these prepared pieces in duplicate. If candidates prepare a symphony not listed in the selection, they must inform the Head of Department 14 days before the examination.
    • In the second part of the examination, the candidate conducts recitatives from Act I of Bedřich Smetana’s opera The Bartered Bride with piano.
    • Třetí část je zaměřena na hru snadných klavírních výtahů:
      • Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: The Marriage of Figaro (Act 1)
      • Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Symphony No. 38 in D major (Prague) – two-hand piano excerpt
    • The result of the conducting examination constitutes 40% of the overall assessment.
  6. The entrance exam includes a general knowledge test, which makes up 10% of the overall assessment.
