Music Production (PhD.)
The programme extends the competences of the graduates of the Master’s degree and leads the students to their own scientific, publishing and pedagogical activities and to the realization of demanding and extensive musical projects with an international scope.
This includes the training of academics and researchers, creative music producers or managers, and directors of music institutions. The aim is also to provide further, highly specialised artistic and scientific education to graduates of the music management and music production programmes of the JAMU Faculty of Music and related study programmes.
The aim of the study is to prepare a graduate:
- on the exploration of music institutions and the related live arts, music and music entertainment industries,
- on the management and organization of theoretical teaching,
- practical realization of model music events in all their links to production, financing, realization, promotion, public relations and marketing communication,
- for applied research activities,
- on the search for new artistic and production methods in their field, on the exploration of these methods, analysis and reflection of the results achieved, which then influence their further work.
Knowledge:
- has a deep knowledge of the history of Czech and world music and musical aesthetics and of the music and music entertainment industry
- Demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge of all forms of musical operation, namely individuals, ensembles and musical institutions and their respective management, including interdisciplinary overlap,
- is familiar with the principles of pedagogical work at universities (adult education) and is familiar with contemporary trends in the teaching methodology of his/her specialisation,
- is familiar with primary and secondary literature, including foreign sources specialising in the chosen topic
- is oriented in the trends of international music production in the context of foreign educational institutions, masters quantitative and qualitative methods of research activity and develops research and artistic procedures in the production of musical outputs
- is knowledgeable about the legislative environment with a deep understanding of copyright law
- is familiar with the marketing and economic environment and can integrate this knowledge into their own production activities
- Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of the principles of managing art projects, their economic aspects, project documentation, project management tools and evaluation of results, their analysis and interpretation
Skills:
- proficient in professional vocabulary including two foreign languages with a focus on music and management terminology
- is able to initiate, conduct, publish and present original research or theoretical work
- can create his own production work, both his theoretical intentions and applied projects, acceptable at international level
- can collaborate with artistic personalities and ensembles of diverse musical genres and forms
- can navigate the use of technologies necessary for the realisation of demanding musical projects
- can accurately use modern marketing communication tools with a focus on the use of social networks and online environment
- uses all knowledge, creative approach and leadership skills in education (of students BcA., MgA., U3V and others)
General Eligibility:
- is capable of abstract thinking, specialized analysis, synthesis and application of quantitative and qualitative methods in own research projects
- knows adequate principles of scientific work and application of scientific methods
- reads and understands foreign language professional text
- is aware of the ethical dimension of academic and artistic cognition and is able to take it into account in his/her work
- adheres to general ethical principles
- has the ability to give structured verbal speeches and presentations
- can use his/her creative potential with the ability to self-reflect
- can work and communicate in a team, assert himself in management positions and at the same time can coordinate the work of other team members and provide feedback
- can search for sources and literature on a given topic
- expresses themselves in writing to an excellent standard
Graduates can find employment in the following professions:
- University teacher, or teacher of music management, music production or arts management at a conservatory or arts high school,
- researcher,
- leaders of music institutions, primary art schools or own artistic projects and activities,
- an employee of the state administration or local government,
- Specialist in media, PR and marketing (especially in connection with the musical arts).
